Building Blocks of Meaningful Behavior Change
I recently learned Ice Skating. It took me one week of falling hard several times face first or bum first to remember a lesson of taking a small step at a time.
How ridiculous it sounds that a grown woman like me forgets the power of small steps?
Changing behavior is like learning a new skill. It's not enough to want to change. We need to break from past habits and adopt new habits. Its not easy and here's why:
We can't admit that we need to change
We underrate inertia - Our brains like what's familiar. We underestimate the resistance of what it does to stay in comfort zone.
We want instant results - Unrealistic expectations add to the frustrations of already tough learning process
We take other's success at face value - Without understanding their journey, support system, and things that they are not sharing.
I am sure you would've had one of these goals some point in life where results would be unfavorable; weight loss, more family time, healthy eating, everyday exercise, reading, writing more, less social media etc.
I talk to extremely talented, intelligent founders and leaders everyday who struggle with changes. The ones who move fast are very good with accepting where they stand with a change and stick to the execution longer.
Meaningful change in a behavior is hard to do. Stay with your action plan longer. #SuccessMindset
Life lessons that you can’t afford to ignore
Knowing what to ignore.
Knowing what to ignore.
We live in an information age where everything is connected and often travels fast though out the world. Success and results hence are more depended on knowing what things are more important than others. The art of knowing what to ignore.
Distractions - Anything that does not take you closer to your personal goals. Social media, news, twitter threads, courses, people etc.
Negative thoughts and people - Positive thoughts and people help us keep focus on our goals in spite of setbacks. We need that energy and encouragement to show up and make progress.
Peer pressure - Success, happiness are relative goals. Any goal that pressurizes you to compare yourself with others doesn't serve you.
Align your actions and surrounding to amplify your life goals, cut down everything else. You’ve got this!
