Time Management for Founders
This is one of the most repetitive topics of my coaching conversations with startup founders. Importantly so, effective time management is a critical skill for success. And lack of thereof leads to stress which is another important aspect of startup life. I will write about stress management some other time but here is quick reference to better stress mindset
Forget time as money and start seeing time as energy. Are you gaining energy or draining energy doing the task, meeting the person? #Mindset
Everyone has 24 hours. What we choose to do with it makes all the difference in our life trajectories. Hence it is important to choose what to work on and also how to choose?. In addition to various decision matrix, how to prioritize tasks also depends on primary metrics from you business. E.g. Revenue, number of users
So, assuming you’ve chosen the right things to work on for you and your company’s success let’s move ahead on how to effectively manage time and achieve goals.
There are ONLY three possibilities,
You do the time, and complete the task.
You delegate the task to someone else to complete, and save time.
You create the time by automating the task, making machine/software do it, or choosing to drop it from your to-do.
Most successful founders I work with are very well organized and use their calendar to manage everything. I’ve seen an entry for dog-walking :)
I never go to plan their calendar, everyone’s stage, situation is different. Time they allocate for ‘work’ and ‘life’ differs accordingly. Also that’s not coaching is about. Elevating self awareness, creating new self-beliefs, and inspiring individuals to achieve what they dream of is where the magic lies.

Life lessons that you can’t afford to ignore
How to make your to-do list less overwhelming?
It’s easy to feel like there are too many things to do. It is also common to be overwhelmed by your to-do list.
Here are five ways you can make your to-do list less overwhelming and make progress,
1. Quick wins list or Enough for week's progress - Keep focus on momentum with quick wins for the week list. What will be just enough for you to make progress? List that and focus only on completing that
2. Not more than three important items - List only three items for you to complete in a day or a week. *Ordered by impact & importance
3. Specific actions - Don’t write hire a business development associate. Write what specific actions will lead to that outcome. Where will find them, how will you select whom to interview, what will you ask? etc. Write specific actions to complete
4. Prioritize by impact and importance - “When everything is important, nothing is.” Prioritize equally competing tasks by ordering them by the impact they will have on the larger goal or its importance
5. Think beyond ‘Work’ - Include your learning, thinking, hobby times in your to-do list. Best way to make it attractive to do and level up the energy and momentum
Unconventional Tip: Instead of to-do list, make 'Don't-Do' list.
